According to the report, many at Disney, which produced Snow White with a massive budget of over $270 million, were shocked that the film's lead actress expressed a political opinion while promoting the film. Producer Marc Platt even flew to New York to speak with Zegler, but she stood her ground and refused to delete the post. Meanwhile, according to Variety, death threats began to target Gadot, prompting Disney to fund personal security for her.
The Variety article also notes that Gadot, for her part, focused her posts on supporting the hostages in Gaza and avoided tying the issue to Snow White's promotional campaign.
Zegler had previously tested the patience of studios she worked with. For example, she had complained on social media about not being invited to the Oscars ceremony, where her breakthrough film, West Side Story, was competing. The issue was resolved when the Academy sent her an invitation, despite her not being nominated for her role in the movie.
Despite speculation, the Variety article emphasized that there was no animosity between Gadot and Zegler during filming. According to sources, the two got along well on set, though the situation changed afterward.
Following the Oscars, where the two presented an award together, Zegler referred to Gadot dismissively as a “professional beauty queen” in an Instagram post. To address the crisis, Variety reported that Zegler and Gadot were kept apart during the promotional tour for the film. At the film's premiere in Los Angeles, the two were seated two rows apart.
Snow White, which premiered last week, is a live-action adaptation of Disney’s classic 1937 animated film. The movie received lackluster reviews, to put it mildly, and grossed just over $43 million domestically in its first four days and $87 million worldwide. These numbers signal a major box office disaster for Disney.
