John Anthony Miller, 43, received a 46-month prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release, according to court documents. He was convicted on three charges, including explicit threats of murder and attempts to retaliate against public officials because of their roles.
Prosecutors said Miller left multiple threatening voicemails at Rosen’s office using sexually explicit, aggressive language and antisemitic slurs. In one message, he said, “We’re going to finish what Hitler started,” accompanied by additional insults. Another message accused Rosen of allowing “her Israeli family members to kill Palestinian Christians,” adding, “You let them do this and then come back here like nothing happened.”
Miller also accused Rosen of supporting Israeli settlers in the West Bank, claiming “450,000 settlers are American citizens returning to the U.S. after committing war crimes, and no one stops them.” He warned Rosen, “I’m pretty sure you have family there. And you won’t do anything. You will let them kill Christians in the West Bank,” before adding, “You’re going to burn in hell, and me and Jesus will piss on you.”
On Oct. 18, Miller attempted a face-to-face confrontation at the federal courthouse in Las Vegas, presenting an ID and demanding to meet “his senator.” After security denied him entry, he shouted profanities including “kill every stinking Israeli terrorist” near Rosen’s office. Security footage of the incident was submitted as evidence of his intent to carry out threats.
In the following weeks, Miller continued to harass Rosen by calling from a blocked number, leaving more threatening messages verified by the FBI through voice analysis. One message included a direct threat against Rosen’s family and relatives of two other senators: “Watch out, your whole f***ing family is in danger.” The calls continued almost daily for more than two weeks.
The U.S. Department of Justice said the acts “long ago crossed the line of free speech,” and were carried out with “clear intent to intimidate, deter, and disrupt the work of public officials.”
Rosen, a prominent Jewish senator known for her support of Israel and strong ties to Nevada’s Jewish community, became a target for antisemitic attacks following the Gaza conflict that escalated after Oct. 7. Miller’s messages also contained religious references and called Rosen a “subhuman,” “devil,” “parasite,” and “inhuman piece of sh*t,” among other slurs.
The sentence followed a plea agreement in which Miller admitted guilt to all charges. Rosen’s office said threats against elected officials must be taken seriously and expressed confidence in federal prosecutors and law enforcement agencies handling the case.
