Air raid sirens sounded across central Israel and Jerusalem on Friday night after the IDF detected the launch of a missile from Yemen, prompting millions of Israelis to seek shelter as aerial defense systems scrambled to intercept the threat.
In an initial statement, the IDF said it had “identified the launch of a missile from Yemen toward Israeli territory,” adding that “aerial defense systems are operating to intercept the threat.” The military urged the public to follow the Home Front Command’s emergency guidelines.
A follow-up message noted that sirens “sounded in several areas in Israel following a projectile that was launched from Yemen,” and said details were “under review.”
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
