In collaboration with Reichman University
Despite ongoing regional challenges, international students continue to find their way to Reichman University, drawn by an educational experience that transcends current circumstances.
In a podcast interview, Sivan Ben Horin, head of marketing communications specialization at Reichman University's School of Communication, and third-year student Adi Golan revealed why their institution has become a magnet for international students seeking a transformative educational experience that bridges global perspectives with practical career preparation – even during uncertain times.
Beyond being just a number
Adi Golan's journey exemplifies the stark contrast between traditional large universities and Reichman's approach. Having experienced a massive Canadian university where she was "just a number in a class of 500 people," Golan found herself seeking something fundamentally different after completing her military service in Israel. "I wanted to be in a community of people who come from similar backgrounds to me", she explained, highlighting Reichman's unique position as a meeting point for international and Israeli cultures.
The transformation was immediate and profound. "I'm walking through campus saying 'Hi' to professors, lecturers, friends, students from other programs – I just get to know everybody and the campus becomes a much more fun place to be", Golan shared, emphasizing how the intimate campus environment fosters genuine connections impossible in larger institutions.
Practical education meets global standards
Ben Horin positioned Reichman University as uniquely equipped to serve international students, explaining that the institution is "modeled after Ivy League universities" while maintaining Israel's entrepreneurial spirit. "What makes us unique is the practical aspect where we bridge the gap between academia and the marketplace," she noted, highlighting how field professionals teach hands-on workshops alongside top researchers and lecturers.
This approach yields tangible results. Golan secured multiple opportunities during her studies, including a marketing position within the university and a media company role through a professor's connection. "I get real-life experience on campus that I can show future employers", she said, demonstrating how the program's practical focus translates directly into career advantages.
Staying ahead in the AI Era
Perhaps most significantly, Reichman University has embraced rather than resisted the AI revolution. Students take a mandatory generative AI course in their first year, where they explore various tools and learn adaptability. "We encourage using AI like ChatGPT as a tool to help make our experience better and learn to adapt to the new world", Golan explained, describing how she recently used AI to create a jingle for a class project.
Ben Horin emphasized that while AI literacy is essential, human skills remain irreplaceable. "What people will always bring to the table is critical thinking, empathy, and active listening", she noted. "If we both asked AI a question, we'd get the same result, but perhaps I would know better what to do with the result and how to prompt it further."
The Israeli advantage
The conversation revealed unique advantages of studying in Israel that extend beyond academics. Ben Horin highlighted Israel's "startup nation" mentality and entrepreneurial culture, while Golan appreciated the informal yet professional atmosphere where genuine relationships flourish. "In Israel, networking is everything", Golan observed, noting how connections made on campus directly impact career prospects.
For students considering their options, both Sivan and Adi offered unequivocal advice. "Just do it – it's the best decision I could have made", Golan urged prospective students. Ben Horin concluded: "Today's advantage as a young person is to stay curious and have experiences. Traveling abroad and learning in another country really opens your mind."
With students from over 90 countries, Reichman University offers more than education – it provides a launching pad for globally-minded professionals equipped to thrive in an AI-integrated world.
